Navigating downtown is becoming safer and easier.
Revitalization efforts that take years to accomplish can be quickly undone if traffic is congested, parking is a hassle or crime is thought to be rising. The WDDC has taken the lead in studying parking issues and generating print and online parking maps to make the area more accessible. Zoning and traffic improvements that the WDDC supported have enhanced accessibility and reduced crime, and we have been strong advocates for a community policing program downtown.
The WDDC expanded use of the Q-Line, the shuttle bus that looks like an old-fashioned trolley, to include inexpensive seasonal routes in the downtown area. In addition, the WDDC helped develop the Wichita Ambassadors, a four-person program that provides parking management and other services to improve the downtown experience for residents, visitors and merchants.
