Preserving Wichita's history has been a key aspect of downtown's renaissance.
To help guide preservation efforts, the WDDC has conducted workshops for property owners on historic tax credits and other financing options to preserve and find new uses for buildings that reflect Wichita's history. It also assists property owners with CIty sponsored programs for facade improvements as well as other uses and advocates frequently for the use of tax-increment financing districts to utilize property tax revenue for center city improvements.
Saving buildings or helping to find new uses for them isn't enough, however. Improved landscaping and streetscaping throughout the area provides a more useful and visually appealing Downtown experience. In an effort to look and plan for our future, the WDDC became a foundation member of Visioneering Wichita, a regional organization dedicated to improving business, social and civic life in south-central Kansas for generations to come.
