The light is green, the future is forward, and the moment is now.
2012 was a dynamic year for Downtown Wichita. Construction began on the first new building along the core of Douglas in 38 years, over 40 new businesses set up shop in Downtown, 69 new residential units were put on the market and over two million visitors came to experience Downtown's amenities. With approximately $100 Million of completed projects in 2012 and approximately $272 Million completed since the adoption of Project Downtown: The Master Plan for Wichita in December 2010, Downtown Wichita is truly a center of progress. The future is now, and we are poised for growth.
Mayor Carl Brewer: “Wichita is a great city. Our residents want to make it even better. We’ve achieved a lot in downtown, such as Old Town, the arts and residential life. As I’ve been talking about Downtown and what competing cities are doing, people have shown great interest in taking our Downtown to the next level. They understand it’s about keeping people here, recruiting new people and business. It’s about our future, and working together, I know we can get there.”
And the progress doesn't stop. We are currently seeing development projects in planning, under construction, and nearing completion all over Downtown. To help see where all the development is occuring, download the Current Downtown Projects Map or visit the Downtown Projects Listing and see our progress.
